Youth Event Funding Program
The Youth Event Funding Program was established by City Council to assist youth (individuals or groups in grades K–12) with costs related to participating or competing in a youth event.
Funding for this program is established through the annual budget process and is limited to $300.00 per individual request or $600.00 for a team/group.
The special event(s) must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for funding.
a. Criteria

Application Submission
- Requests must be submitted in writing on this City application.
- Applications must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the event to allow sufficient time for City Council review and possible disbursement.

Event Eligibility

The event must be one of the following:

Educational in nature and associated with a school program provided by a school located in the City.
Examples of eligible events include achievement events, competitions, or tournaments in the fields of academics, arts, sports, leadership, or performance arts. It does not include fundraising for field trips sponsored by the school. - A program sponsored by the City or
- A program that promotes the City of Thornton on a regional or national level that will bring value to the participant(s) and the Thornton community as a whole.

Community Benefit
- The applicant must describe how the event benefits the Thornton community

Residency or School Requirement

The individual, or a majority of the group or organization making the request, must:
- Attend a school located in the City (public, private, or homeschooled); or
- Participate in a program sponsored by the City; or
- Be a City resident.
- A preference will be given to requests from applicants who reside in Thornton.

Other Resources
- Applicants must show what other resources have been applied for and what personal contributions are being made.

Post-Event Report
- The individual or group must provide written feedback of the event to the City Manager’s Office or give a short verbal report at a City Council meeting under Citizen Participation.
- Contact the City Manager’s Office to schedule a verbal report.

Program Limitation
- The event cannot be an ongoing program that is the financial responsibility of another government or jurisdiction.
b. This program is administered by the City Manager’s Office (CMO)
- Applications will be forwarded to City Council for consideration. A majority approval by Council at a City Council meeting is required to award funding.
c. Requests from Thornton area high schools for After-Prom events
- Will be processed administratively by the City Manager’s Office, up to $300 per event, and reported to Council.

d. Uncashed checks will be cancelled 90 days from the date it was issued.
Instructions: This form is to be used if an individual or group of individuals requests funding for a youth event. The program is intended to assist individual students for up to $300 or a team/group up to $600. Once approved, a payment will be sent by check directly to the individual who requested the funding. For the team/group request, the $600 will be divided equally and payments will be sent individually by check to the members of the group.
